Osteoarthritis: What is it?Osteoarthritis is the most common arthritic condition. The route cause of osteoarthritis, is a deterioration in the cartilage. In earlier stages, the cartilage becomes swollen, there is a loss of protoglycans and other tissue components; and fissures or pits appear in the cartilage. As osteoarthritis develops the cartilage loses elasticity, becoming more prone to damage. In latter stages, large amounts of cartilage is destroyed leaving bones unprotected. Osteoarthritis: Does TENS Pain Relief work? When treating the pain associated with osteoarthritis, TENS or Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation offers an excellent alternative to pain-killing drugs. It is a non-invasive, drug-free method of pain relief. Pads are placed on or near the area of pain. TENS uses soothing pulses that are sent via the pads through the skin and along the nerve fibres. The pulses suppress pain signals to the brain. TENS also encourages the body to produce higher levels of its own natural pain killing chemicals called Endorphins and Encephalins.
In many cases, this stimulation will greatly reduce or eliminate pain. Relief may continue for several hours after the unit has been switched off. For many, relief is so dramatic that using our units has changed their lives. We are always delighted when someone telephones to tell us that
they are pain free for the first time in years ... and it does happen. Contact us at:
